Chinese tech company Unitree has announced the launch of its second-gen robot dog, the Go2. This robotic dog features include the ability to follow you at jogging speeds, perform gymnastic feats (i.e. jumping, stretching, pouncing, etc.), and even engage in conversations through a GPT-enabled system capable of writing code on the go. The base model, priced at $1,600, can reach 5.6 mph (9 km/h), while the Pro model, priced at $2,800, can go up to 7.8 mph (12.6 km/h), ensuring it keeps pace with you when you jog. Although at 7.8 mph I would be left behind in the dust after a very short period.
Equipped with super wide-angle LiDAR and HD cameras, the Go2 can map and navigate its surroundings in real-time to avoid obstacles and adapt to different terrains like stairs and rocks. Its capabilities have been significantly improved, with 30% more powerful motors compared to its predecessor, the Go1, enabling it to perform jumps, backflips, and even dance on two crossed-over legs.
The Pro model has a GPT-enabled speech engine, allowing users to converse with the robot in natural language. What’s more, it is reported to have the ability to interpret verbal requests and try to write code to fulfill them, demonstrating a unique level of interactivity.
However, the pricing can be somewhat misleading; for a Unitree Go2 Pro with a controller, the actual cost is $3,050, and all models are subject to a $400 shipping fee and a 25% duty if ordered within the USA. Additionally, users can customize their Go2 with various accessories, use an app for programming, or rely on voice control for commands.
